The artist created this piece as a Christmas gift for her then-boyfriend, Stephen O. Smoot, who is now her husband.
It captures the divine council scene from the Book of Abraham (Abraham 3:22–28). God the Father (Elohim) is seated at the center with Jesus Christ (Jehovah) at His right hand. Above them hovers Kolob and other celestial bodies described in the cosmology of Abraham 3. Surrounding them are the 24 elders mentioned in Revelation 4:4, and further out are the “noble and great” ones, along with other pre-mortal intelligence gathered in the council.
The painting was inspired by the profound moments and reflections the artist experienced while reading Stephen’s insightful articles, such as “Council, Chaos, and Creation in the Book of Abraham” and “The Divine Council in the Hebrew Bible and the Book of Mormon.” These works deepened her understanding of the divine context and the sacred act of creation, mirroring the unity and purpose she felt in their relationship.
As she painted, the artist envisioned the Divine Council and the world’s creation from Abraham 3, translating this vision into a symbolic representation of their journey together. This piece reflects the sacred verses explored in Stephen’s writings and embodies the hope and shared commitment to living and teaching the gospel of Jesus Christ that they hold dear. It is a testament to their collaborative spirit and the beautiful life they are weaving together.
